Minter Sweet Select

Source: Chef’s Resource

Minter Sweet Select oysters are a new offering from Minterbrook Oyster Company under the new ownership of the Kingman family. They are part of the business insight of “process improvement” which the Kingman’s bring to their new company and these “select oysters” were first rolled out in October 2013. Kent Kingman says, “We believe that if our people are world class in their warmth, care, friendliness, customer focus, passion for quality and improvement; it will give us the foundation to reach that world class shellfish company vision. It will take time but we will get there.”

Minter Sweet oysters are a triploid oyster cultivated by the Minterbrook Oyster Company, which is located west of Gig Harbor, WA in the Central Puget Sound region where Minter Creek flows into Minter Bay and connects to Henderson Bay. They cultivate a variety of fresh shellfish including oysters, clams, and geoduck.

Minterbrook Oyster Co. was established in 1932 by Hubert Secor who got the company up and running and built a name for these great oysters. In 1954 he sold it to the Wiksten family who significantly expanded the operation over the course of the next 52 years. In 2012 the company was purchased by Kent & Donna Kingman, who live in the area, and have spent years helping other oyster farmers improve their operations. Now it is their turn, and they relish the opportunity to do what they love right in their own back yard.
